Why do people think fish cant suffer?
Am I the only one who feels horribly sorry for fish? Most of the time they get crammed in little tanks that are a totally unsuitable size for them, like clown loach and marine fish in teeny tiny tanks, then they get sick and gross flesh-eating bugs attack them. People think its OK to flush them down toilets or release them into freezing cold rivers when they get bored, and when you try to tell people how they SHOULD be kept, they say "they're only FISH!!"
Well, they have a central nervous system, so they feel pain. These tiny fish bowls must feel like suffocation to them. Is it just cos they arent cute and they're slimy, not furry?
Why do you think people think fish cant feel pain or suffer?
Because people who buy fish and shove them in a half gallon bowl without a heater, filter or pump and stick them in front of a boiling window, are uneducated and unprepared. And when people say that it's "just a fish" is out of ignorance, and they think, "Well if this fish dies it's only 28cents, I can buy another and stare at it happily all day!" And when people flush there live fish or put them in lakes, they don't care were they will end up obviously, and they don't care if they are breaking the law or disturbing the balance of nature by dumping un-native fish into lakes. And for fish suffering, people think they won't and can't because unlike other animals, i.e, dogs and cats; fish can't whimper, whine or give off any unusual, loud or strongly noticeable, besides inflamed gills white dots etc..., telling you there is something wrong which also leads to non educated and ignorance.
